The last holdout from signing the BCS/ESPN contract has finally given up hope.  Though, I can’t really blame them for the delay.  Sometimes deals take time to process, especially deals with the Devil.  And, like all deals with the Devil, the soul doesn’t necessarily fetch what you thought it would on the open market.

Instead, the BCS and ESPN just schooled the Mountain West Conference on the fundamental tenets of Vader negotiation 101.  Here’s a quick review of that course, in case you missed it in college (set to the timeless music of Zakk Wylde):

Bob Ley's Lego hair is also a little-known NCAA infraction. One of many violated by Bobby Knight during his coaching tenure.

The first rule of journalism is “Don’t get involved with a newspaper.”  The second rule is “Don’t become part of the story.”  ESPN violates this rule more than any media outlet except for MTV (to the extent you can call it a news gathering station).  In yet another egregious violation, “Outside The Lines” has reportedly contributed to Tennessee’s growing resume of NCAA violations by filming a meeting between Lane Kiffin and a couple recruits.  This apparently violates NCAA recruiting rule 13.10 subsection “nobody reads these subsections anyway.”  For my money, Kiffin is working his first recruiting season like an evil genius.  Every minor infraction (such as this OTL snafu) garners him (and Tennessee) a week’s worth of national media attention.  I mean the only equivalent to this would be if a top NCAA basketball coach had a series of commericals running year round touting his greatness as a coach.  That would never happen, right?

A Poor Man's Jared Lorenzen

I promised myself I wouldn’t use this blog to blatantly attack people when they don’t agree with my obvious biases – wait! It’s the exact opposite! So guess what? Tim Hasselback – you’re a sucky loser.

If you missed it – and you probably did – Mr. Elizabeth Hasselback is apparently now an analyst for NFL Live on ESPN. This followed his stellar NFL career which spanned 4 different seasons (between 2002-2007) and 15 whole games. He actually even got to start a few for the Redskins in 2003. In addition he had a very brief stint as a Cardinals QB in 2007 – signing after Matt Leinart, Kurt Warner, Neil Lomax, Timm Rosenbach, and Tom Tupa (list may not be accurate) all went down.

Ordinarily I would just let his general existence as an NFL analyst roll off my back. He’s no Jesse Palmer in the looks department, in fact he’s so bland that you barely care he’s alive – but he’s drawn my ire with some recent comments. While discussing the recently released ESPN NFL Power Rankings on NFL Live, Hasselback cited the Cardinals as the team most likely to decline in 2009. His reasons? (more…)

As you may be aware, ESPN recently released their NFL Power Rankings for the month of May. We here at SoD thought it was about time we added our two cents. However we all quickly realized that regurgitating rankings on the teams would be pretty boring (particularly in May) so we reverted to what makes us all great – ranking complete strangers based solely on their looks. With that, enjoy SoD’s inaugural ESPN NFL Writer Power Rankings (based on looks).

The rankings were determined by a panel of : Louie Renown, Career Sgt. Zim, and Scott Howard.

So, we got really drunk the night before last and hooked up with someone. Now we can’t remember who it was. We feel so cheap and dirty.
