Last night the D’backs celebrated Randy Johnson’s 300th victory by committing three errors and giving up five runs in the first three innings of the game. Just like old times, eh Randy? You sure you don’t want to come back? Anyways, the official and much-ballyhooed video tribute to Randy played shorty thereafter with the Giants’ victory all but assured.
Randy, a first ballot hall of fame grouch, reacted as if someone allowed him to merge lanes in rush hour on the 101. A simple tip of the cap. No smile, no emotion. Instead, he looked annoyed that the tribute forced him to stand on the top step of the dugout for two minutes. It wasn’t until almost a minute after the video, when someone in the Giants’ dugout clearly ribbed him, that Randy broke into a grin. I don’t know who that Giants’ player is, but my guess is that he walked back to the hotel last night.
Thanks for memories Unit. You were the best mercenary this town ever hired.
