The NBA Nightcap – now with 20% more cap (must pay extra for more night – and night ain’t cheap).
Lakers 103 Nuggets 94 – Denver and the Lakers were tied after the 1st quarter and the 2nd quarter…and the 3rd quarter – fortunately for the Lakers the 4th was quite a different story. Los Angeles outscored Denver by 9 in the final quarter, won the game, and now take a 3-2 series lead back to Denver with a chance to clinch their 2nd straight Western Conference crown.
Kobe Bryant scored 22 to lead the Lakers – but the real story was the 19-14 effort from Lamar Odom. Game 5 was the first time in the series I’ve been certain that Odom was actually alive and not just a rotting corpse that Phil Jackson trotted out for 30 minutes per game. Pau Gasol also added 14 for the Lakers – who had 5 double figure scorers in all (five!). Amazing how that works isn’t it? Lakers get bench support = Lakers win.
Carmelo Anthony got back on track as he scored 31 to lead the Nuggets – however the supporting cast for Denver didn’t really show up. J.R. Smith didn’t have the opportunity to be as boastful since he shot 1 of 10 from three point range, while the Birdman had a plus minus of -17 – which is no small feat in a 9 point game that was tied most of the way.
Now the series will shift back to Denver for Game 6 – one which the Nuggets will need just to stay alive. They’ve been a good home team all year long so the reasonable assumption is that they will return to Denver and force the Game 7 – but outside of that I’ve come to the conclusion that they probably won’t win the series unless the Laker supporting cast pulls another disappearing act (could happen). Looks like the Kobe puppet can keep working another couple weeks.
In more dark puppet news, Game 5 of the Magic-Cavs is tonight. A loss for the Cavs means that a Hedo Turkoglu puppet (who’s Dwight Howard?) will be evicting the LeBron puppet from the Kobe/LeBron household.
