In the wake of promoting super-hero Clay Zavada to the big club, the D-Backs have reeled off 4 wins in a row, all on the road. After taking 3 of 4 from the Marlins, the D-Backs have opened the Oakland series with two wins – including Saturday’s extra innings victory – and will go for the sweep come Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for Arizona they are still 10.5 games back of first place as the Dodgers have continued to win even without the estrogen filled Manny Ramirez.
While it’s not perfect, the fact that the D-Backs are piecing together a nice little winning streak means that maybe, just MAYBE they can somehow make this summer interesting. However please don’t misunderstand my intentions as I believe that the likelihood that the D-Backs stay in contention – even by the time Brandon Webb gets back – is about even with the chances that the movie G-Force claims a 2009 Oscar.
But the bats are coming alive for the D-Backs. Justin Upton has raised his average to .315, Mark Reynolds recently hit his 12th home run, and Clay Zavada exists – thus there is some hope.
