The defending NFC Champions kicked off OTA’s this week. For those of you who don’t know what OTA’s are, I’ll fill you in – OTA stands for ‘organized team activities’. What actually constitutes an organized team activity is a whole other story, but basically it amounts to your players “voluntarily” showing up for group work-outs over the course of the 14 days as allotted by the NFL. It’s basically a glorified team barbecue. I’ve yet to receive confirmation but I’m relatively certain Gabe Watson and Oliver Ross had a pie eating contest at Cards OTA’s on Wednesday. Thus for 14 practices NFL Network will get to take minor breaks from their 24/7 Mike Vick and Brett Favre related programming to show clips of players like Kurt Warner slinging it around in shorts and a helmet.
With all this ripping on OTA’s, you’d think I didn’t care, right? Well you’d be wrong. I absolutely can’t get enough of OTA’s. It probably says more about the state of the Cardinals in relation to the rest of the Arizona sports scene, but as long as there are clips of Kurt Warner standing around slugging water with Larry Fitzgerald, I know there is still hope for Valley sports.
