Well, it’s Conference Finals time – this means the Nightcap is about to get even sexier. Bet you didn’t think that was possible.
Lakers 105 Nuggets 103 – Simply put, the Nuggets gave away a golden opportunity (Puns! -Ed.). With the chance to take a 1-0 lead in their first conference finals since 1985, Denver blew a 7 point fourth quarter lead and fell to the Lakers. Kobe put up a 40 spot on the Nuggets, including an astounding 18 points in the 4th quarter and Carmelo Anthony led Denver with 39. Denver, who has now lost 11 consecutive playoff games to the Lakers, trailed by 2 and had the ball with just 30 seconds remaining. Unfortunately for the Nuggets, this was the moment that Anthony Carter made his best decision since opting to hire Bill Duffy as his agent. Carter threw an errant inbounds pass that was intercepted by Laker forward Trevor Ariza, which allowed the Lakers to push their lead to 4 and seal the game. Pretty tough beginning for Denver. I feel like the Nuggets will make a series of this but to make their first NBA Finals they may have needed to steal Game 1. The last thing they could afford to do was let the Lakers gain a little confidence. Game 2 is coming up Thursday.
In other NBA action, the Clippers won the draft lottery and I cracked out a running diary to commemorate. Pretty big day for Los Angeles basketball.
Cavs and Magicians kick off Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals tomorrow. The Kobe-LeBron Finals is inevitable.
