Cavaliers 99 Hawks 72 – Call him King James, call him MVP, call him whatever you want really…but just make sure to call this series over in 5 games tops. The newly minted MVP poured in 34 points to go with 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals to lead Cleveland. Atlanta exhibited all the classic signs of a team who was just happy to be there, scoring just 28 points in the 2nd half, and went on to lose by 27. It seems that resistance is a little bit futile for the Hawks, and the rest of the Eastern Conference for that matter, because Cleveland has been a force so far this post-season, winning all 5 of their games by double figures. Game 2 of this supposed “series” is Thursday night.
Nuggets 117 Mavericks 105 – This series looks like it should be fun..but it isn’t. After easily dispatching San Antonio, I thought the Mavs had a little more to offer than what they’ve set forth so far in this series. Denver, on the other hand, continues to win games despite the fact that I still don’t think they are very good. They’ll probably get by Dallas, but I think they have as much shot of making the NBA Finals as Trinidad & Tobago had at winning the 1994 Junior Goodwill Games Hockey Tournament.
A pair of Game 2’s between the Magicians-Celtics, Rockets-Lakers tonight. (Celts, Lakers will win…they are my iron clad locks of the week).
