Got your attention didn’t I? Now I’ll be honest with you…yes all 5 of you reading this post, the title is a shameless attempt at getting traffic to the site, but we need to do something. So with that…
As a Suns fan I’ve had the pleasure of watching a 36 year-old Grant Hill get up and down the floor the last 2 seasons. Hill has been decent for the Suns and will occasionally show flashes of what he once was. With every flash I think back to his Pistons days, which in turn leads me to remember some other 90’s players whose greatness can only be captured by YouTube and our memories. So just sit back and enjoy these 5 videos of some of my favorites (starting with Mr. Hill himself):
As discussed. The dunk at the :17 mark is a favorite, in case you aren’t paying attention he’s dunking over multiple Bullets, including 7’7 Gheorghe Muresan.
Just watch this video. Kemp is violent. I don’t know what’s more surprising, the fact that Kemp got fat or the fact that he never averaged over 20 points per game with Seattle (peaked at 19.6)
Does anyone recall that Penny was TWICE First Team All-NBA (’94-95, ’95-’96)? He was like a better version of Magic Johnson for a few years there…yes I said it. Check out the alley-oop from John Stockton (Dream Team 3) at 1:55.
I prefer to remember my Larry Johnson as a Hornet. You know the days where he would dress like an old lady and dunk on people’s heads with Muggsy Bouges throwing it up to he and Alonzo Mourning.
Oh you KNEW I wasn’t getting through this without talking about KJ. He was a 20-10 point guard who could dribble, drive, and then throw down on Hakeem Olajuwon or Hot Rod Williams. He is to me what Larry Bird is to Bill Simmons, I had his poster on my wall and complained until my mom bought me his Converse shoes. Now he’s the most successful Mayor since this guy.
All thoroughly enjoyable stuff. I spent about 2 hours just watching clips of this and others (Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, Isiah Rider included). I miss the NBA of the early to mid ’90’s.
